Presented by John & Bill O Brien
The first Forum event of 2016 was held on the 1st March in Killashee House, Hotel, Naas. Over 35 FBN members and 4 invited guests enjoyed a very open and engaging presentation from John and Bill O’ Brien of O’ Brien Fine Foods which was centered on the approach they have taken to succession planning.

1Farm-1

John opened the presentation with a brief history of the business and how they have developed and grown the Brady Family Ham brand over the years. He explained how the growth was primarily delivered on the back of a dual strategy to grow both the private label and ‘Brady Family’ labels.

Bill spoke about his children- two sons and a daughter and how he has had to make decisions about the business and his assets, ensuring the future is planned for. John, his eldest son is now at the helm, as B
ill is slowly taking a step back from the day to day running of the business and focusing on establishing the family office structure. This is as a result of a structured and well planned approach.

John spoke about how he climbed the ladder to MD, staring in the field in a sales position and progressing through the various parts of the business over time. He spoke about how the different functions in the business reported to him on a phased basis as he grew more confident. During this time, Bill was slowly transitioning out of the business and slowly handing responsibility over to John.
